Beykoz is a peaceful little corner of Istanbul, where old 18th and 19th century buildings coexist with modern buildings – Beykoz Bosphorus district.
- In Roman times, a temple in honor of Poseidon was built and was used to make sacrifices before the sailors set sail
- At the time of the Ottomans Beykoz was reserved for the practice of hunting.
- Then, at the beginning of the 19th century, Beykoz was an industrial area.
- As a result, the first Turkish paper mill was built in Beykoz.
- Pasabahce, a recognized glassmaking brand in Turkey, was born in Beykoz in 1934.
- The “Anadolu Hisari” fortress was erected in 1393 – 1394, positioning it as the oldest Ottoman monument in Istanbul. Sultan BAYEZID 1st ordered its construction in order to prepare the siege of Constantinople in 1395, in Beykoz. Anadolu Hisari is closed to the public – Beykoz Bosphorus district.
- Beykoz Korusu Park is sumptuous with an incredible panorama of the Bosphorus.
- Kücüksu Kasri, now a museum and formerly the Baroque-style summer palace of the Sultans, was popular for hunting activities. It was built in 1857 by the Armenian architect named Garabet Amira Balyan.
In Beykoz, there are 248,000 inhabitants. It’s not a really touristy area, which makes it all the more interesting.
