Alanya
Alanya is a seaside resort on the Turkish Riviera. Alanya is the capital of the eponymous district in the east of the province of Antalya. Due to its natural strategic position on a small peninsula in the Mediterranean Sea below the Taurus Mountains, Alanya has been a local stronghold for many Mediterranean empires, including the Seljuk, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman Empires.
Alanya’s greatest political importance dates back to the Middle Ages, with the Seljuk Sultanate of Rum. Its building campaign resulted in many landmarks in the city, such as the Kızıl Kule (Red Tower), Tersane (Shipyard) and Alanya Castle. The top of the Alanya peninsula where the castle is located is the perfect place to enjoy the best view of Alanya.
There are plenty of cafes and restaurants for those who want to enjoy this magical view. Cafes surround the port of Alanya and offer different ambiences day and night. Along the harbor you will find shops selling local clothing, leather, jewelry and colorful water bottles. On the way to the port, you can find artists who can draw your portrait with a smile. Alanya is the city where the sun is always out, with a typical Mediterranean climate (at least 300 sunny days per year).
