Metro under the Bosphorus: Marmaray metro line is the most widely used form of public transport in Istanbul. It is an alternative to crossing from Europe to Asia if you don’t want to take the boat or go by bus – Marmaray Istanbul.
The Marmaray is a metro line which passes 60 meters under the Bosphorus, and which is undoubtedly a solution to the very intense daily road traffic. For some time now, its railway lines have increased, linking up with the metro lines (map of Marmaray metro line is below).
The Marmaray: it’s a very secure way of transportation, agents check your bags at the entrance, it’s really very clean, and the stations are really beautiful, with photo exhibitions, paintings, mosaics on the walls , sculptures on the ceilings – Marmaray metro line Istanbul.
The Marmaray is practical because in a few minutes we cross from Asian side to Europe. There are toilets at all stations (paying with the Istanbulkart card = 10tl).
How much does it cost to take Marmaray? : a trip on Marmaray will cost you 14.75 tl for the journey from Gebze to Halkali but you can recover credits or 5.50 tl or more on the Istanbulkart card on your arrival at your destination (the refund is calculated on the length of your journey) Terminals are at the exit of Marmaray for this purpose .
HOW LONG DO I WAIT FOR THE MARMARAY TRAIN?
Trains come in every 15 minutes on the Gebze Marmaray line. There is a train in every 8 minutes between Söğütlüçeşme – Zeytinburnu as well.
Travel time from Gebze to Halkalı decreased from 185 minutes to 115 minutes. While it takes 37 minutes to go from Bakırköy to Bostancı, the travel time for Söğütlüçeşme-Yenikapı is 12 minutes.
